Balvenie Peat Week 2002 14YO
Details
The first release of Balvenie Peat Week
The Peat used in The Balvenie is from Speyside.
The peat has a higher proportion of ‘non-phenolic’ characteristics which give the whisky earthy, smoky notes and contains much less of the ‘phenol’ which gives the salty, medicinal characteristics of Islay Whiskies
So despite the malt being heavily Peated (30ppm)…it tastes completely different.
Heavily Peated Balvenie whisky matured exclusively in American Oak Casks
Tasting notes
Nose: Gentle sweet peat smoke with some lighter floral notes and delicate butterscotch honey.
Taste: Velvety and round to taste with the peat smoke balancing citrus flavours, oaky vanilla and blossom honey.
Finish: Gentle smoke with a lingering and creamy vanilla sweetness
