The Tasting Notes
The nose is super-clean and fresh, with green melon, candied peel, croissant, and a really lovely background herbal smokiness with bay and basil, slates and coal tar.
The palate is fat, oily and citrussy, beginning with a wave of mandarin and a spritz of passionfruit juice, then developing in a properly maritime direction with oysters and lemon.
The finish is long, a bit waxy, with citrus, sea water and threads of something elusively phenolic.

Bottling a Bruichladdich is always a special occasion, and even more so when it’s one of the very lightly peated (5ppm) batches that were only made for a few years after the distillery reopened in 2001!
After trying this he's starting to wish Bruichladdich continued in this style. You don’t really feel the peat, but the coastal side of the distillate is really amplified, and that works beautifully with all the fabulous citrus. It’s a really gorgeous and elegant dram, and quintessentially Islay.
This first-fill barrel produced only 181 bottles at a cask strength of 56.7%
