Bunnahabhain 1986 21 Year Old, Feis Ile 2008
The Tasting Notes
Rich moist fruit cake, lovely sherry aroma balanced by a fresh saltiness.
Wonderful balance of flavours delivered in waves, sherried oak, slightly oily, developing nutty chocolate maltiness, some toffee caramel and a touch of honey.
Long, spicy and dry with balanced oak. A hint of cocoa and saltiness in the tail. A fine example of how beautifully Bunnahabhain develops with longer maturation.
Details
In November and December 1986, cask numbers 1585 and 1772 were filled and set aside in warehouse no. 6 of the Bunnahabhain Distillery on the remote north-eastern tip of the Isle of Islay. As winter turned to spring, the first of eighty-four seasonal changes began to work their magic on these two very special traditional Spanish oak hogshead casks, with just the elements and the loving eye of an entire generation of distillery staff for company on their twenty-one year journey.
