Dangerous Don Joven Espadin Mezcal
Details
Mezcal is one of the oldest distilled spirits in the Americas, dating back some 500 years. The word Mezcal comes from the ancient Aztec language, Nahuatl, and means cooked agave. Historically, mezcal was the first spirit to be distilled in the Americas. During colonial times, the Spanish banned the production of mezcal in order to promote the sale and consumption of their own imported beverages, and so began the underground production of this illustrious Mexican spirits icon.
Started in 2015 Dangerous Don is a Mezcal brand based in London and Oaxaca founded by Thea Cumming.
So, the big question: who’s Dangerous Don? It’s Thea’s father!
He’s the inspiration behind it all. His attitude has always been a bit devil-may-care, which has given her the confidence to step out and make things happen. So why Dangerous?
Disillusioned with a vets course at uni, he had dreams of jacking it in and going out to work in The Bahamas with his mate, Big Andy. So, one night they got merry and dreamed up ways of making a living in paradise. Eventually they settled on setting up a cigar-smuggling business, illegally importing from Cuba to the Bahamas and re-exporting to Florida. The plot was leaked to his contemporaries at the vet school and henceforth he was Dangerous Don – the Cuban cigar smuggler of Camden.
