Glen Grant 50 Year Old
Details
Glen Grant Distillery is nestled deep in heart of Speyside overlooking the majestic River Spey. Glen Grant was established in 1840 by two brothers, the previously illicit distillers, John and James Grant.
The Glen Grant spirit is world renowned for its light, gentle character, due in part from the unique, almost square, section between the stills’ pot and the neck and the purifiers on the lye arms.
On the instruction of my grandfather fifty years ago, a cask was filled with "new make" spirit distilled at Glen Grant Distillery. It was left to mature at the distillery for many years before being transferred to Gordon & MacPhail's bonded warehouses in Elgin.
There the cask lay until the decision was finally taken to bottle this speyside single malt whisky at 50 Years Old.
This expression of Glen Grant 50 Years Old has rich Sherry influences with plum, raisin and charred oak aromas. The palate is sweet with hints of stewed apple, pear and a lingering coffee edge.
