Glen Moray 2005 15 Year Old Tokaji Cask, Warehouse 1
Details
Glen Moray is delighted to follow on from 2020’s inaugural Warehouse 1 release – the delicious 2006 Sauternes Cask Matured – with the first of three releases scheduled for 2021.
The first expression is a beautifully sweet bottling of five casks of Glen Moray distilled in 2005 and matured for over 15 years, first in ex-Bourbon casks before being finished in casks having previously held Hungarian Tokaji Wine.
The result is a welcoming sweet shop of flavours: sugared almonds, caramel toffees and freshly baked gingerbread.
These flavours mingle with malt and maple syrup to create a whisky befitting of a Tokaji cask selection.
Bottled at cask strength, non-chill-filtered and presented in natural colour.
Tasting notes:
Nose: A full-on sweetshop of aromas are there from the outset: sugared almonds, caramel toffees and freshly baked gingerbread. Sweet sugars hold back the fresh fruit character traditional with a Glen Moray spirit but you can just about make them out, lingering in the background.
Palate: Beginning with a taste that is slightly malty, biscuity and hinting at freshly baked bread. The sweetness that stood strong in the nose comes through on the taste but is not as big as expected. Maple syrup on Scottish pancakes along with warm pecan pie.
Finish: Nutty, almond marzipan which is long and lingering.
