Indeed, this is almost certainly the greatest Glen Spey you will (n)ever taste. A single refill hogshead of 1989 Glen Spey bottled at 32 years of age after a remarkable maturation that saw it reach a natural cask strength of 65%! They reduced it to a more sippable 60%. This opened up all that remarkable concentration and power and honeyed, fruity magnificence of this bonkers Glen Spey. The profile is really closer to an early 1970s style Speyside malt in that sense. Essentially, this is a 'Scottish hot climate' matured Glen Spey - or as close as Scotchland gets to hot climate anyway - that's why there are only 114 bottles of this juice!

This is why they decided to select this totally left-field and delicious cask for the celebratory milestone that is Whisky Sponge Edition 80. It is also the next in this year's occasional series of 'Sponge Selfies', where labels across all their Sponge bottlings will feature self portraits of the Sponge in a variety of artistic styles.
