Glenallachie 2014 Wilson & Morgan Casks #9900166-67
From one of the youngest distilleries in Speyside, this bottling, entirely matured in sherry casks is a perfect example of their very dry, fruity and explosive style. The influence from the Oloroso is absolutely unmistakeable: the nose is intensely winey, sharp and pungent, absolutely over-the-top, with a funky note of multivitaminic complex, yeasty and nutty. All this traditional dry sherry galore translates even more spectacularly to the palate: it’s so nutty, full of raisins, dried figs, dates and plums, and balsamic vinegar too! One of the most uncompromisingly dry and extreme sherry cask experiences we’ve had in recent years, full bodied, meaty and extremely enjoyable: so extreme that we had to bottle it at standard strength to tame it a bit!
