AZUMA MAKOTO
A master of the universal language of flowers, Azuma Makoto found tremendous joy in their radiant whisky’s dancing floral notes. Marvelling at the scents he found in its bouquet, the floral artist likened our single malt to the wonder of a flower in bloom.
UNFOLDING RADIANCE
“It begins with rich, rounded aromas of dried fruits and honey, then unfurls into a bouquet of geranium, tuberose and jasmine. They dance on the tongue with honeysuckle and sweet pea, figs and nuts until the blossoms fade into a sweet and lingering finish.”
A WONDROUS CREATION
For this unique collaboration, Azuma Makoto was inspired to reimagine their rare single malt’s rich, floral balance through the language of flowers. Translating the whisky’s delicious bourbon cask softness and sweet, oloroso sherry cask hints, he drew on the beauty of almost 100 different blooms from across the world. Azuma Makoto coaxed each one into blossom at his Tokyo studio and perfectly choreographed his airborne floral masterpiece Dancing Flowers of Glenmorangie, which they share in this wondrous limited edition.
Tasting notes:
Colour: Deep gold. Rich and full.
Nose: Rich, rounded and sweet with dried fruits and a complex floral fragrance. Initially, the aroma has nutty, caramel (crème brulee) and vanilla overtones followed by hints of walnuts, honeycomb and dates. Complex floral notes emerge with geranium, jasmine and narcissus. With water, deep oak notes are released revealing a balsamic character, softened by vanilla. The hallmark Glenmorangie fruity complex emerges as rich apricots and dates, interwoven with hazelnuts.
Taste: The mouthfeel is silky, smooth and rounded with a full flavour. The taste is beautifully balanced between the flavours of honey, malt and flowery scents, followed by Oloroso nuttiness (hazelnuts and walnuts). Dates and figs emerge in the background with a hint of wood smoke.
Finish: The finish is long and enticing with the sweetness of dried fruit and subtle dryness of Oloroso nuttiness.
