Heaven Hill 2009 15 Year Old, Cut Your Wolf Loose
The Tasting Notes
Banana bread thrown in your face, candied nut mix, and uncooked pancake batter.
A tasteful tug-of-war between bourbon and something pretending to be rye. Brown sugar, big oak spice, pepper noir, and possibly even a whisper of “remember me?” from something that once was Caol Ila.
Longer than the lunchtime queue at Greggs. Swings between oak spice and peppery sass. The ABV carries this like a home run (or whatever the f*ck it is that Americans like to play).
Details
Continuing their theme of non-Scotch curveballs, Cut Your Wolf Loose have picked out a belter of a Bourbon from Heaven Hill; incredibly hard to get hold of in the UK, let alone as a single cask. They’ve given the liquid a cheeky finish in a peated ex-Islay cask (Caol Ila). This hasn’t passed on too much peat, but rather has left behind a spicy rye-style character that’s full of surprises.
Art is from the legendary Brighton street artist, Cassette Lord (AKA Martin).
Famous for making Brighton's B.T. junction boxes more palatable for all (and his love of cats), he's come up with something truly special for Cut Your Wolf Loose.
