Islay Blended Malt 2010 9 Year Old, Whisky Trail

The Whisky Trail is a collection of young and old casks, taking drinkers off the beaten path of whisky. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are hand-selected to be bottled as part of The Whisky Trail range, and with each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, they never chill-filter or add colour.

This blended malt has been created from whiskies distilled on Islay, and has been aged for more than nine years in an ex-bourbon barrel which only yielded 258 bottles. It’s been bottled at a high strength that carries intense layers of flavour and shows a timeless Islay character.

NOSE: You are immediately hit with earthy peat, smoky kipper and cigar ash. It’s not all about the smoke, though – vanilla, burnt caramel and ground ginger lend a softer edge.

PALATE: Classic, vertical Islay. Iodine, smoked bacon, fresh-ly-sliced cured meat and sea salt. Bloody Marys with clamato juice, sweet bell pepper, celery and soy sauce. The savoury, vegetal notes slowly fade into warming spices: clove and nutmeg.

FINISH: Gentler and sweeter on the finish, with orange, mango and charcoal smoke.
