Mannochmore 2008 13 Year Old, Murray McDavid Ximenex Spinola PX Cask
Mannochmore Distillery produced one of the most controversial releases the whisky industry has ever seen - the 'black whisky' - it's enthusiastic caramel colouring sparked outrage. Today, they present this Speyside malt, displaying its honest, natural colour accrued from the cask.
Bottled exclusively for the UK
1 of only 286 bottles produced.
Distilled: 2008
Bottled 2022
Non chill filtered and natural colour
Tasting notes:
Nose: Sherried spices, chocolate, red currants.
Palate: Fresh flapjack, stewed fruits, hard fudge.
Finish: Sweet malt, hint of mocha, oak spice.
Initially filled into a standard hogshead, this light, fruit spirit developed complexity but very little colour. They've nurtured the complexity and developed the colour by finishing this Speysider in PX sherry casks from their partners, Ximenez-Spinola for its final two years - displaying the true art of maturation.
