Mortlach 1989 Sherry Cask - Samaroli
Details
A rare Mortlach from the independant bottler Samaroli.
Mortlach was the first distillery built (in 1823) in Dufftown and can be considered the opposite of its famous neighbour, Glenfiddich, with which it has the very lIt hosts the whisky industry’s oldest collection of copper stills (which can be admired from a raised “belvedere”).
Their different forms and dimensions give distinct nuances that contribute to forming the pleasant complexity and decisive character of the whisky produced here. In 1877 the plant was expanded, passing from three to six stills that are the heart of the unique “partial triple distillation”
system.
This Mortlach 1989 Sherry cask is a well-rounded and intese bouquet. Very complex nose, rich of mineral notes (flint) and spices with a pleasat sherry wine contribution.
Leather, hazelnut, tobacco and dried fruit shades herbaceous touch and traces of vanilla.
Full bodied and smooth palate with long lingering taste.
Mortlach is thus highly requested for strengthening blended whisky with its complexity, so is hardly ever available as a single malt, which is really worthwhile trying.
