Compass Box, Myths & Legends I
Details
Artwork story:
Single malt brands all use blending to achieve complexity and consistency. A single cask of mature whisky reveals only one side of a distillery's character.
The central figure is hybrid: part woman and part deer. This represents the contrasting flavours of each of the two parcels used for Myths & Legends I, and how 'single' malts are typically made up of multiple personalities.
The 3 releases in the Myths & Legends range creates a triptych - a single connected image in three parts, populated with mythical characters.
Compass Box Myths & Legends I highlights how blending furthers our understanding of distillery character. Two parcels of malt whisky from the same Northern Highland distillery tasted markedly different: the younger parcel was malty and citrusy, the older one much creamier with a ripe fruit character. Each parcel revealed only one facet of the distillery's personality.
By combining them, Compass Box have created a whisky full of fragrance with a more rounded complexity. The designation of 'single malt' is almost incidental; to Compass Box, I is all about the blend.
This is the first of three playful and thought-provoking whiskies. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to try the full Myths & Legends series before reflecting on – and guarding against – the dangerous siren that is 'received wisdom'.
