Compass Box, Myths & Legends II
Artwork story:
Single malt brands all use blending to achieve complexity and consistency. A single cask of mature whisky reveals only one side of a distillery's character.
It’s all about how the whisky is made, not where.
In the foreground, showing its importance to the flavour of the whisky, we find a figure within a golden spiral. This spiral is a nod to the coiling copper pipes of the worm tub condensers used at the Glen Elgin Distillery (the distillery that has made the whisky used in Myths & Legends II). It is a symbol for distillery processes generally.
Meanwhile the landscape (representing the myth of the whisky regions) is relegated to the background.
The 3 releases in the Myths & Legends range creates a triptych - a single connected image in three parts, populated with mythical characters.
Compass Box Myths & Legends II blends together malt whiskies of different ages from a single Speyside distillery. In addition to the aromas of tropical fruits and butterscotch you will also discover subtle savoury notes and spiciness. This distinctive character has nothing to do with 'Speyside', process decisions made at the distillery, the effects of maturation, and Compass Box's own choices regarding the final blend are the most significant factors. Clues to a whisky's flavour lie in the glass, not the distillery's region.
This is the second of three playful and thought provoking whiskies. We hope you'll take the opportunity to try the full Myths & Legends series before reflecting on - and guarding against - the dangerous siren that is 'received wisdom.'
