Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky
The Tasting Notes
Lively and tart. Zesty! Fresh and citrusy all the way. An ode to lemon, which the sweet Williams pear barley manages to temper. Fine pepper notes and a hint of balsamic vinegar blend together, with softer vanilla scents finding their way in. Café au lait.
Like the nose, its vivacity is sustained by citrus aromatics (clementine, orange) which challenge more enticing notes of coffee, praline, baba au rhum, and vanilla cream. Surprisingly, prune, mirabelle and greengage aromas develop.
Extends without batting an eyelid on prune and mirabelle notes. Liquorice makes a brief appearance before the fruit takes center stage.
Details
Produced using Coffey-type column stills, a method typically used for grain whisky, this Nikka release is made entirely from malted barley.
This distillation approach creates a rich texture with pronounced oak influence.
