Super Nikka Revival
Details
This is a revival version of Nikka's classic blended whisky. The first edition of super nikka was blended by the founder masataka taketsuru and launched in 1962. It was a tribute to Rita, Matataka's scottish wife, who supported her husband's dream and passed away in 1961. Matataka overcame his sadness after her death by dedicating himself to creating this ulitmate blend. Nikka blenders tasted this original super Nikka from an existing old bottle and revived it as a limited edition bottle for 2015.
Replicating the flavour profile of the orignal 1962 Super Nikka release the special "Revival" blend is composed of grain whisky with malt Yoichi, lending it a heavier, slightly peatier style when compared to todays super Nikka bottling.
Colour: Old gold.
Nose: concentrated, rich. At first herbal (freshly cut grass, straw) and citrus notes are joined by liqorice and spices (ginger, cinnamon) evolving towards cafe latte notes. With time, aromatic plants (verbena, linden) accentuate this earthy and vegetal character.
Palate: abundant and full bodied, the palaye first exhibits two distinct profiles, one is very unctuous with honey notes (acacia, raspberry honey) slowly, vanilla and lactic (coconut) aromas appear, ending on the star arise and a slight comphor note.
Finish: long, slightly tonnic. Fine oak and cereal notes (green malt) give way to noble spices (saffron, ginger) and floral notes (heather, iris) in the empty glass.
