About Port Ellen Distillery:
Port Ellen Distillery was originally established in 1825 as a malt mill, it was purchased in 1833 by John Ramsay who began work to develop it into a functioning whisky distillery. In 1925 it was aquired by the Distillers Company Ltd. From here the distillery experienced several closures, first in 1930 wherein it lay dormant for over 30 years. The distillery was rebuilt in the 1960s but closed again in 1983. However, in 2024 we saw the distillery open its gates once again and production begin.
