A German classic with a Scottish twist. An ‘Alt’, as it is often called, means ‘old’ and refers to a style which pre-dates lagers. It is a dark, malty beer with a decent dose of German hops. Düsseldorf in the west of Germany is home to the style where it’s still made in brewpubs in the old town and beyond.
Mountain: Ben Wyvis is a vast, sprawling mountain close to the coast north of Inverness. It is isolated from any other higher ground and provides great views for such a relatively easy and short walk.
