Wolfburn 2017 8 Year Old, Cognac Casks
The Tasting Notes
Hints of dried fruits mix with sweet brandy notes. This is followed by aromas of vanilla, with just a hint of coffee and dark chocolate.
A symphony of luxurious flavours. Dried apricots and almonds are overlaid with vanilla, accompanied by subtle hints of warm spice. Wait a while and barley sugar makes itself known, along with soft dark chocolate. Truly this is a decadent dram.
It’s oh-so-sweet, with vanilla and autumn fruits gently fading away, leaving just a trace of caramel and sea salt at the very end.
Details
Back in mid-2024 Wolfburn managed to get their hands on some beautiful fresh Cognac casks, which they’ve used to give a unique finish to a truly special whisky. These casks were crafted from finest French oak from Limousin, which most experts agree is truly superb wood for maturation. This limited-release whisky was initially laid down in first-fill bourbon casks in 2017 and transferred into these wonderful French casks for the last six months of maturation. Subtle hints of the Cognac they once contained have infused beautifully into the spirit, lending it a remarkable sweetness and depth of flavour. There are just 3,900 bottles in total.
