Aberargie Golden Promise "Expressions" Single Malt Whisky

Aberargie Golden Promise "Expressions" Single Malt Whisky

Aberargie Golden Promise "Expressions" is the second release from Aberargie Distillery and a celebration of one of the most famous barley varieties in the history of Scotch whisky. Distilled entirely from 100% Golden Promise barley, this distinctive single malt has been created to explore the character of the grain itself, with a carefully considered maturation designed to complement its naturally rich and indulgent qualities.

Golden Promise is a historic barley variety that became particularly renowned within the Scotch whisky industry for the flavour and character it could bring to the spirit. Aberargie Distillery has chosen to place this celebrated grain at the heart of the whisky, allowing its character to shine through a balanced combination of first-fill bourbon and first-fill sherry casks.

Golden Promise Barley at the Heart of the Whisky

Aberargie Golden Promise is distilled exclusively from Golden Promise barley, making the grain an integral part of the whisky's identity. The maturation has then been carefully selected to enhance rather than overwhelm the character of the spirit.

The whisky has been matured with a 68% influence from first-fill bourbon casks, complemented by 32% first-fill sherry casks. This combination brings together the creamy sweetness and vanilla character associated with bourbon maturation with the richer dried-fruit and spiced notes contributed by sherry casks.

The result is a richly textured Lowland single malt with layers of buttery pastry, baked orchard fruits and gentle spice, offering a deliciously indulgent interpretation of Golden Promise barley.

Golden Promise - A Historic Barley Variety

Golden Promise holds a special place in Scotch whisky history. Once widely regarded as a premium malting barley, the variety became particularly valued for the distinctive flavour it could contribute to whisky. Although modern barley varieties have largely replaced it for commercial production, Golden Promise remains highly regarded among whisky enthusiasts for its heritage and character.

Aberargie Golden Promise "Expressions" offers the opportunity to experience this historic barley variety through the spirit of a modern Scottish distillery. By using Golden Promise barley exclusively and pairing it with carefully selected cask types, Aberargie has created a whisky where the influence of the grain remains central to the experience.

Aberargie Distillery

Based in the heart of Perthshire, Aberargie Distillery is developing a new generation of Scottish single malt whisky with a particular interest in the relationship between barley, distillation and maturation. This second release continues that exploration by putting the spotlight firmly on the grain used to create the spirit.

The Golden Promise Edition is part of Aberargie's "Expressions" series, with each release taking a different approach to barley and maturation in order to reveal how the choice of grain can influence the final whisky.
