Aberargie Laureate "Expressions" Single Malt Whisky

Aberargie Laureate "Expressions" Single Malt Whisky

Aberargie Laureate "Expressions" is the second release from Aberargie Distillery, showcasing the character of a newer generation of barley selected for its resilience and exceptional flavour potential. Distilled using 100% Laureate barley, this distinctive single malt explores how the choice of grain can influence the character of the finished whisky.

For the Laureate Edition, Aberargie Distillery has paired the vibrant character of Laureate barley with a maturation led by first-fill sherry casks. The whisky has been matured with a 68% influence from first-fill sherry casks, balanced by 32% first-fill bourbon cask maturation.

The carefully considered cask combination brings forward an elegant and expressive profile, with layers of candied orange peel, dried fruits and ripe orchard fruits developing into a long, honeyed finish.

100% Laureate Barley

The defining feature of Aberargie Laureate "Expressions" is the use of 100% Laureate barley. Laureate is a relatively modern barley variety, selected for its resilience and its potential to produce high-quality spirit with a distinctive flavour profile.

Rather than treating the barley simply as a raw ingredient, Aberargie has developed this expression specifically to explore its character. The result is a whisky that demonstrates how different barley varieties can contribute to the flavour, texture and personality of Scotch single malt whisky.

Carefully Considered Maturation

The Laureate Edition has been matured in a combination of 68% first-fill sherry casks and 32% first-fill bourbon casks.

The greater influence of first-fill sherry casks provides a rich backdrop of dried fruits, citrus sweetness and spice, while the bourbon casks contribute vanilla, soft sweetness and balance. Together, the two maturation styles allow the vibrant and elegant character of Laureate barley to remain at the forefront.

Laureate - A New Generation of Barley

Laureate represents a newer generation of barley, offering a contrast to the historic Golden Promise variety used in Aberargie's companion expression. Its selection reflects the importance of barley development in modern whisky production, combining agricultural resilience with the potential to produce exceptional flavour.

By distilling exclusively from Laureate barley, Aberargie Distillery has created an expression that places the grain at the centre of the whisky's identity. The maturation has then been carefully selected to allow its distinctive character to develop and shine.

Aberargie "Expressions" Series

The Aberargie "Expressions" series explores the influence of different barley varieties on single malt Scotch whisky. Each expression takes a considered approach to maturation, with the cask selection chosen to complement the character of the individual grain.

Alongside the Golden Promise Edition, the Laureate Edition demonstrates the contrast between a historic barley variety and a newer generation of grain. Together, they offer whisky enthusiasts a fascinating opportunity to explore the influence of barley on the character of Aberargie single malt whisky.
