Details
This Braeval 2010 16 Year Old from Little Brown Dog is a cask the team have been particularly excited to release. Fully matured in a white port barrique, it showcases a less commonly seen cask style paired with spirit from one of Speyside's more quietly regarded distilleries.
The choice of cask also carries a small sentimental story for the Little Brown Dog team. Long before the company existed as an independent bottler, Andrew experimented with a small custom cask that he seasoned with white port before finishing an Arran whisky in it as a gift for friends at the distillery to celebrate its 18th anniversary in 2013. That early experiment helped spark a lasting appreciation for the character that white port casks can bring to whisky.
Opportunities to bottle whisky fully matured in white port casks are relatively rare, which made this cask particularly appealing. While bourbon and sherry casks dominate most maturation programmes, Little Brown Dog are always keen to present something a little different when the right cask appears.
The label also takes inspiration from Braeval's location. The distillery is often considered one of the highest in Scotland, alongside Dalwhinnie. With that in mind, clouds felt like a fitting theme for the artwork - a light-hearted nod to the distillery's lofty surroundings.
This release highlights Little Brown Dog's ongoing search for distinctive casks and their enthusiasm for sharing whiskies with interesting stories behind them.
