Details
This Caol Ila 2012 13 Year Old marks the second time Little Brown Dog have bottled whisky from the well-known Islay distillery. The team regard Caol Ila as one of the most versatile distillates in Scotland, capable of working beautifully with a wide range of cask styles.
For this release, the whisky was matured in a single refill butt and bottled just a few months before its 14th birthday. Little Brown Dog often favour Caol Ila at a slightly younger age, allowing the distillery's distinctive bright peat character to remain fresh and expressive.
The label artwork continues the maritime theme used on the previous Little Brown Dog Caol Ila release. While the earlier bottle featured a lobster illustration, this time the team turned to an elegant hand-coloured etching dating from 1876 by J. F. Schreiber. The artwork depicts kelp alongside a crab and a small prawn, offering a fitting nod to the coastal character associated with the Islay distillery.
This bottling reflects Little Brown Dog's appreciation for Caol Ila's adaptable spirit and their continuing interest in pairing distinctive whiskies with equally characterful label designs.
