Caol Ila 2013 12 Year Old Unpeated, Little Brown Dog
Details
Distilled in 2013, this 12 year old Caol Ila offers the opportunity to experience a rarely seen side of the famous Islay distillery. Bottled by Little Brown Dog, this release focuses on showcasing the distillate itself rather than relying on heavy cask influence.
While a sherry finish was considered, the decision was made to preserve the character of this unusual unpeated spirit. The result is an elegant and delicate whisky, highlighting Caol Ila’s naturally refined distillate with sweet, clean and subtly complex flavours.
Unpeated Caol Ila releases are relatively uncommon, making this a fascinating chance to explore a different side of one of Islay’s most respected distilleries.
The label artwork follows Little Brown Dog’s tradition of obscure references. Inspired by the absence of peat, it nods to the band Fleetwood Mac and their first album released after the departure of founding member Peter Green: Kiln House. No Pete, but a kiln — a fittingly quirky reference for a Caol Ila without peat.
