Glenfiddich 40 Year Old, Batch 16
The Glenfiddich 40 Year Old is a product of time, of 40 years spent maturing in American and European oak casks, its complex and sensuous flavours mellowing and smoothing over the years. But the whisky also benefits from the time their craftsmen have spent looking after it, their experiences and traditions passed down over 125 years.
Thanks to the unique remnant vatting process, the Glenfiddich 40 Year Old is a single malt whisky unlike any other. It is a true time capsule of taste - their complex 40 year old whisky is vatted with previous 40 year old vattings that are rich and deep in flavour.
The glenfiddich 40 Year Old is the culmination of over 45 years of dedication from their former malt master, David Stewart; and on of their crowning glories in the pursuit of excellence that began with William grant back in 1887.
tasting notes:
The colour is dark mahogany.
The nose is beautifully rich and aromatic with layer upon layer of dried fruits, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and ripe black cherries. Occasional wafts of gentle wood smoke, polished leather and cloves.
The taste is smooth and luxuriously mouth coating. The initial flavours are intense dried fruits, Christmas cake, dates, raisins and stewed apples. Over time slightly dryish oak notes appear with some bitter chocolate and just the merest hint of peat.
The finish is incredibly long lasting and complex - a truly memorable experience.
