Macallan 1989 Samaroli Magnifico Cask #1219
Details
Macallan 1989: a masterpiece created one step, one year at a time, along that mark only the best alchemic traditions may tread as a spirit reaches perfection: alcohol, wood, time. A perfect alcoholic concentration towards the 42.5 threshold after aging for three decades. No rushed innovation. No accelerated growth. Just the usual rigorous processes.
A monumental whisky. Which does justice and bestows glory on Speyside, and whose task is — will be — to teach new generations of enthusiasts what eau-de-vie was before any neo-totalitarian drift came about.
It is hard to sketch out any final tasting notes: Macallan 1989 will mature over time whilst preserving its original character of the highest expression of a Speyside.
Unlike his travel companion bottled a few weeks ago, our cadet from Scotland lived these years in a former bourbon barrel so it appears less sulphureous and more aromatic and elegant
As of now we witness honey, vanilla, heather, underripe pear, ripe pear and liquorice. Ancient elegance and full harmony. A smooth, open and silky taste. Powerful whilst delicate. An old-style whisky fully evoking those traits which made it so widely known.
