Secret Mauritius Distillery 2014 7 Year Old, Dram Mor Single Cask #1985

This little pearl of a rum distillery, with its rich tradition of rum making, sits in a beautiful old estate amidst orchards and sugar cane fields in the north of Mauritius. It continues the artisanal French tradition of producing distinctive and refined rums from pure sugarcane juice. This cask was distilled in December 2014 using a traditional column still and lived until 2016 in an ex-bourbon cask in the Tropical heat of Mauritius. It came to the UK where it was re-racked into an ex-English whisky cask that once held red wine and was left to gently age until bottling.

Nose: Light, bright vanilla with hints of cut grass, pear drops and old hay.

Palate: Instantly warm followed with a rich oily sweetness redolent with cola, coffee and fruity tobacco.

Finish: Lingering butter and cola with a heat that slowly moves down your gullet, warming every part as it goes leaving an effervescent vanilla in its wake.
