Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries 2021 (Chichibu x Komagatake)

Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is a limited-edition blended malt whisky created by Ichiro Akuto from two Japanese single malt distilleries - Chichibu and Mars – representing a paradigm shift in the industry, as cask sharing between distilleries is historically rare in Japan. The resulting whisky is vibrant and elegant with amazing complexity.

Historically, Japanese distillers would not share stocks with one another as happens in Scotland, preferring to keep production in house - however, this is beginning to change, as demonstrated by this collaboration between Chichibu and Mars. Ichiro Akuto blended this whisky from stocks of Chichibu produced in Saitama with whisky from Mars distillery, which sits at over 2,600 feet above sea level, resulting in a slower maturation of the whiskies and lending them a smooth and elegant style.

Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021 opens with notes of ripe pineapple and mango with a touch of green banana and lemon. The palate showcases notes of rich vanilla custard with salted caramel and cinnamon before finishing with burnt orange and black pepper.
