Trade Mark X 100 Proof 57.1%

When James Eadie’s Trade Mark ‘X’ was first bottled in 2017, the goal was to remain as faithful as possible to Mr. Eadie’s 19th-century ledgers. This involved crafting an elegant, lightly peated, old-style blend that incorporated whisky from every region of Scotland. In keeping with Mr. Eadie’s traditional methods, the blend was primarily matured in ex-refill casks.

However, upon tasting one of the last surviving bottles from the final 1947 batch, one striking detail stood out: the whisky was notably sherried—far more so than the original ledgers suggested. This unexpected discovery sparked several years of planning. From the outset, the aim was to take the existing character of Trade Mark ‘X’ and enhance its sherried profile.

Twelve casks were re-racked into a mix of first-fill and refill Oloroso Sherry hogsheads and left to mature further. After a year, all twelve casks were evaluated, and the four most outstanding were hand-selected. To preserve the blend’s signature elegance, a refill hogshead was added for balance.

To highlight the sherried richness and amplify the peaty notes, the whisky was bottled at the traditional 100 Imperial Proof – 57.1% ABV – a nod to the strength commonly used in James Eadie’s era. The First Edition of Trade Mark ‘X’ 100 Proof is composed of just five casks and limited to 1,800 bottles worldwide. It has been bottled at natural colour, without chill filtration, at 57.1% ABV.
